The 11A Indicator was Seiko’s first wrist watch with an automatic movement. In fact it was the first wrist watch produced by a Japanese manufacturer to utilize an automatic movement. The 11A was produced by Seiko's Kameido factory and was released in late 1955. The automatic movement used in the 11a was based on a Swiss movement - the A. Schild caliber 1382. There were three variations to the 11a. The first was the ref 14015 introduced in 1955 which used a Nivaflex mainspring and hence was not a fully in house movement. This movement originally used a Swiss imported E-1 and R antishock system. The final batches of the 14015 had Seiko's in house S2 diashock system. The second variant was the reference 14043, which now employed Seiko’s very own S1 diashock (anti shock) system to the movement. The final execution, was the 14060, which had a larger 37mm case size and the movement fitted with an improved S2 diashock protection system.

Overall, this 14060 Seiko 11a indicator is in excellent condition. Everything of this watch appears original. The steel case has a few nicks, and most likely has been polished in the past. However, the case retains its sharp edges with the beautiful bevels still clearly visible. The dial is in great condition with a few visible blemish which is expected of a vintage Seiko from the 1950's which was not waterproof. There are tiny spottings throughout the dial which is common on these cream colored dials from this era. The indexes are made of 14k white gold as indicated by the sun shaped “special dial” logo above the six o’clock. The hands are crisp and is the highly desirable “mountain” hands shape.
