The Seiko Lord Marvel was introduced  in 1958 by Suwa Seikosha and was Seiko’s first ever luxury model. Most Seiko experts agree that there are five dial variations to the 1st generation Lord Marvel (1958~1964). To learn more about the 1st generation Lord Marvel dial variations, we encourage you to read our post here.

The watch we have on offer is an early (February 1960 / pre GS1st) mark three dial with the logo carved similar to the mark one but without the applied S. The mark three Lord Marvel first generation models were offered in 14k gold filled, stainless steel, and 18k solid gold cases. This example is the 18k solid gold model which was, at the time released, by far the most expensive watch that Seiko offered in its entire watch offerings. In fact, it was more expensive than the Grand Seiko First (which was off course not solid gold but rather gold filled). The carving of the Lord Marvel logo were hand carved by the same expert craftsmen at the Suwa factory who were carving the logo for the Grand Seiko First. In addition, this is a "special dial" Lord Marvel as indicated by the sun shaped octagonal logo above the six o'clock, meaning that the index of this watch is made of 18k solid gold and were hand planted (instead of glued) by the craftsmen at the Suwa Seikosha factory. This is a chance to own a piece of history and a top luxury model vintage Seiko that is rare and collectible at a fraction of the price from the first Grand Seiko.

Overall, this 1st generation mark 3 dial Seiko Lord Marvel is in very nice vintage condition. This example, which employs the correct 18k gold 14050 case, has a few nicks and minor scratches, and most likely has been polished in the past bit overall is in good condition for its age. The crown is a replacement crown. The original dial is clean overall with just some minor spottings and visible discoloration on the right edge of the dial. The carved "Seiko Lord Marvel" logo is in beautiful/crisp shape.  The 18k solid gold index as well as the original hands are in great condition. The hands are the correct and highly desirable “mountain” hands shape that was also used in the First Grand Seiko carved logo models. The movement has been serviced by the previous owner in April 2020 and is running great at -5.4 sec/day.

The watch also comes with a brand new tan epsom strap made by the talented Jones in Tokyo locally here in Japan and is paired with a period correct Seiko buckle which in itself is quite rare and hard to come by.
