The Grand Seiko SBGJ231 was a Seiko Premium Boutique exclusive model that was only available in the Japan domestic market. The 231 has recently been replaced by the SBGJ235 which is now an exclusive model for Grand Seiko Boutique's around the world. The two are virtually identical with the difference being an update in the Seiko branding on the caseback.
The SBGJ231's main feature is the beatiful 'Mount Iwate pattern' blue dial— which was inspired by the ridgelines of the magnificent mountain visible from the Shizukuishi Watch Studio where all Grand Seiko mechanical timepieces are made. Part of the Heritage Collection, the case of the SBGJ231 adheres to the 'Grand Seiko Style'—the embodiment of the Grand Seiko design philosophy which was first established for the 44GS in 1967—and features a distortion-free, wide mirror surface throughout.
This Grand Seiko SBGJ231 is in overall great condition. The 44GS inspired case is unpolished and has slight scratches and dings from previous use. The dial is flawless as is the original stainless steel bracelet that came with the watch. The watch comes from its original owner and was purchased at the Ginza Seiko Premium boutique in February 2018. It comes as a full set with its inner and outer boxes, certificate of guarantee, Premium Boutique card, and time testing certificate. The movement is in full working order and the watch still has an year and a half left on its warrantee.
