The 61GS series watches are named for its model starting with the first two digits “61”. They were all produced by the Suwa Seikosha factory.

Launched in December 1970, the Grand Seiko “Specials” were regulated to +/- 3 seconds per day – only the VFA’s were more accurate. The premium of these 6155/6 calibre models was 10,000 Yen over that of the Grand Seiko Standard 6145/6 models. Calibre 6155/6 holds the unique distinction of all vintage Grand Seiko calibres of only ever having been used in a single model variant – the 6156-8010 that is available here.

Overall, this piece is in great vintage condition. The case has some small scratches but we believe it is unpolished given that it retains very sharp edges and its original mirror polish. The dial on this particular watch is in very good condition, with the original white in overall clean condition despite its age. The crystal is original and has some scratches but we decided not to replace it give the scratches aren’t that visible. The handset and crown are all original and in great shape. The gold medallion on the caseback is original and in good condition as well. A non Seiko original clear case back is included for this piece so that you can enjoy seeing the movement and preserve the gold medallion caseback. On a timegrapher in the dial-up position, the watch is running at an astonishing +2.4 seconds per day. Our watchmaker has checked the movement and has made simple adjustments.
