The 61GS series launched in 1967 and there were a vast variation of models that were produced throughout the production run of the series (51 models in total) that lasted until 1975.

This is an all original vintage 6146-8000 Grand Seiko employing the famour G.O.D (grammar of design) case design first introduced in the 44GS. The  earliest examples of the 6145/6-8000 have a different dial to those that followed, with “Grand Seiko” on the dial under the GS logo, rather than “Hi-Beat 36000”. Given the much shorter production run of these early pieces, they are very collectible.

Overall, this piece is in nice vintage condition. The case has some light scratches but we believe it has just been polished a couple of times in the past given that it retains sharp edges with a beautiful Tanaka grammar of design profile. The original silver/white dial is in very clean condition with just some minor blemishes and spoting on the dial with nothing major. The handset and crown are all original and in good condition. The original caseback and  gold medallion is in great condition. The movement was serviced by the previous owner last year and our watchmaker checked and did some minor adjustments. It is currently running at -7.4 seconds per day in the upright position.
