The 61GS series launched in 1967 and there were a vast variation of models that were produced throughout the production run of the series (51 models in total) that lasted until 1975.
This is an all original vintage 6146-8000 Grand Seiko employing the famour G.O.D (grammar of design) case design first introduced in the 44GS. This 61GS comes with its original box, guarantee booklet, and GS buckle. It is extremely rare for a 61GS to come with its box / papers and this is a chance to own a historic model with its lovely outer box signed with GS brand logo and wooden box along with its guarantee booklet.
Overall, this piece is in nice vintage condition. The case has some light scratches but we believe it has just been polished a couple of times in the past given that it retains sharp edges with a beautiful Tanaka grammar of design profile. The original silver/white dial is in very clean condition with just no major blemishes or spotting. The handset and crown are all original and in good condition. The original caseback and gold medallion is in great condition. The watch also comes a period correct original Grand Seiko wooden box and outer box signed with a Grand Seiko logo. Both the wooden box and outer box is extremely rare and doesn't come up in the market often and has great value. It also comes with its guarantee booklet in Japanese explaining the GS standard and manual for its hibeat movement.
The movement was serviced by the previous owner on July 2020 and our watchmaker checked and did some minor adjustments. It will come with the movement service papers from the watch maker that the previous owner sent it to. It is currently running at an excellent +8.1 seconds per day in the upright position.
