This watch needs no introduction. Inspired by the Renault tanks that the French jeweler saw in battle on the Western Front during the first World War, the Tank has been the foundation of Cartier since 1917. This example is the Tank released as part of the Must de Cartier line that the French maison first introduced in 1977. The watch paid tribute to the original Tank Louis Cartier and was launched with more than a dozen different dial options, like dark blue or red and even a striped pattern, or three shades of gold. This example is the highly coveted Black onyx lacquer dial with white painted Roman numerals and rail track minute circles.
Overall, this piece is in very good vintage condition. The case has some light stratches but retains its beautiful lines and all the hallmarks are very crisp on the case and caseback. The original black onyx dial is in very clean condition with no blemishes or discoloration. The original hands as well as the blue spinel cabochon is in good shape. The automatic movement was last serviced in 2016 and is currently running at +8.2 sec/day. The watch comes with its original black leather strap from Cartier (worn condition) as well as its original gold plated buckle.
